Last Tuesday Murray tied 2 flies , the Razor Foam Damsel and a awesome Dragon fly pattern , the Pappa Roach. If you would like some more info on these 2 beauties give us a ring in the shop or send us a mail.

Razor Foam Damsel fly Nymph

Below it the Pappa Roach ( named after a Rock Band) . Murray and i have landed our Biggest Trout on this fly. You hardly retrieve this guy.

The Rainbow ( 5.3kg ) below was caught at Highland Lodge in November 2007.

The bullet of choice - Pappa Roach ,

Gun - Thomas & Thomas HS 905 , with a floating line on a Ross Evolution Reel.

If all go according to plan we will be starting our trips to Highland Lodge in May this year. We will keep you updated.

One last thing, remember we have our OPEN day on Saturday 27th February. This will start at 09:00.

Fly tying Demo at Shop

Hi, we will have our usual tying demo at the shop 2night , all about DRAGONS & Damsels.

We did "visit" the Vaal river past Saturday & Sunday. The river is running very high still, +/- 300cms. Hope fully the water will start to subside during March. The visibility was also very bad , maybe 8cm.

One more thing, we will have the FlyFishers Unlimited / Stealth open day at the shop on Saturday. We will also have the Super 14 Rugby live on the tele. Come past for a chat or a cold one.

Another weekend of Rain?

Flipper tail , tied by Murray at last weeks tying meeting.

Well , it is going on two months solid now. NO fishing in the Vaal. We will be down on the river Saturday and Sunday , will let you know what happened.

Tyrone will be back from Seychelles on Friday, cant wait to see the fishy photos. For next week Tuesday's tying we will look at the latest development in CRAB( the PERMIT killer) flies. Thus join us at 19:00 in the shop , just bring your own drinks.

The Uni Bobber Hopper

Murray tied the Uni Bob Hopper last Tuesday during the fly tying demo evening we had. This fly is unsinkable. This is a short recipe :

Hook : Grip streamer # 4 - 8

Body : Extended foam hopper body ( pre formed )

Wing : Razor Thin Foam

Thorax : Ice Dub

Legs : Round Rubber

Special : Uni Bobber ( they even glow in the dark)

Murray will demonstrate a few baitfish / streamer patterns tonight . Tying start at 19:00

Vaal river fishable again

Excellent news, if the weather hold the river should be fishable again this weekend coming.I know we will be there on Saturday After work and Sunday morning , cant wait.

Fly Tying - Tuesday Night

Just a quick reminder of the Fly Tying demo tomorrow night at the shop. Murray will be demonstrating the use of the Mini Bobbers and also some Deer Hair techniques.

Time: 19:00 at Flyfishers Unlimited ( Four ways )

Tying on Tuesdays

We had our first Fly Tying Demo ,Tuesday evening past. Murray tied a new TADPOLE pattern for big hungry trout in THRIFT . The second fly was a Foam Caddis ( Sterkies fly ) and then he also demonstrated how to tie in a NYLON loop on those BIG foam hoppers if you wish to fish a small dropper of the dry.

This will take place every Tuesday up to the end of March. Drop us a mail or give us a ring if you want to find out a bit more.

The status on the Vaal river:

If the river keep on dropping like this we will be able to fish mid FEB. again . Unfortunately we had reports of HUGE fish kills on the river , the "GUYS" are still looking into why?

Sterkofontein fishing was tough this last weekend , this magnificent piece of water also experienced the effect of all the rain we had lately . The experts reckon the water level is up by nearly a meter.
